sternly: adverb - strictly
Sentence - The police commanded sternly to the culprits to tell the truth.
in a fix: (idiom) - a difficult situation (synonym – mess)/ a situation hard to escape from
Sentence - My friend was in a fix in the ground because he had to score 18 runs from one over.
stare: (verb) – to look at somebody/something for a long time
Sentence - My class teacher stared at me in the class room.
flash across the mind (phrase) – suddenly think of
Sentence - An idea flashed across my father’s mind.
vegetable bits - (small pieces of vegetables)
strips (noun) – long narrow piece
Sentence – My mother cut the lady’s finger into long strips.
ground (verb, past tense of the word grind) broke or crushed something into very smaller pieces/particles)

lo and behold! (idiom) – look! What a surprise
This idiom is used for calling attention to a surprising or annoying thing
Sentence - As soon as we went out, lo and behold, it began to rain.
traditional (adjective) – older methods and ideas that have not changed for a long time (synonym – conventional)
Sentence - Avial is a traditional feast in Kerala.
